The Self Love Series: Faith Connolly
We initially wanted to create the Self Love Series to celebrate and empower women. We wanted to showcase that lingerie is a key to harnessing your inner confidence. Over the last few months with all that is happening in the world, this series seems to resonate now more than ever.
This month for our Self Love Series we have interviewed Faith Connolly (@faithconnolly) who takes us to her home and provides us with escapism.
Faith is an artist and a poet, drawing us in with her creativity. The reason we wanted Faith to be part of this series was to receive pictures that felt like they would transport us to a different era and answers that would leave us feeling motivated and strong. Of course, this was delivered and we couldn't be happier with the results.
We hope you enjoy this months Self Love Series x
What does self love mean to you?
To me, self love means adoring myself as though I am my own true love. To take care of myself, with a closeness only I can provide. Whether that be building boundaries, shutting off the world, writing love letters to myself, dancing to music in mirror and appreciating myself for all my uniqueness, my individual qualities, imagination and vision.
When the day is up, the week has been long, what’s your ultimate self love ritual?
After a week of pressure I love running a steamy hot bath with my favourite essential oils, rose, geranium, orange. Playing music and lighting incense or candles to really rewind and relax. I pick myself a bouquet of wildflowers, treat myself to the ultimate hot chocolate, with Superfeast Mason’s Mushrooms, raw cacao, ginger, coconut sugar and cayenne pepper and sit under the sun or at my favourite tree nearby to meditate and draw, write and read.
Where does your confidence come from? / What makes you feel confident?
My confidence comes from peace, I think once I found peace with myself, how I look and feel, I noticed how I carry myself became a lot easier and felt more natural and unnerving giving me a lot more confidence. I often find myself feeling confident in what I’m wearing, to me my wardrobe and how I present myself to world really reflects my mood and my level of confidence that day.
What is your favourite way to wear lingerie / style lingerie?
I love wearing lingerie underneath understated outfits, like with flares or underneath my favourite traditional Kimono from Japan. I love textures, clashing and complimenting each other to highlight how I want certain lingerie to look. I also love wearing lingerie in the day time, especially when the sunlight is soft and gives an apricot glow.
How does lingerie help you to feel empowered?
I believe being a woman or identify as a woman today we have the power to feel as sexy and loving as possible without feeling maternal, responsible and naive. We know the risks of being fertile and flirtatious and by feeling seductive and we still choose to do it because of the feeling it offers us, even just for our own reflection. I think wearing lingerie shows my most vulnerable side, in the most powerful way.
What does your perfect weekend entail?
Creating magic and being close to nature. A hike to a misty waterfall, or a day spent by the ocean. I love tree bathing and submersing myself in water, to let go of all thoughts and tension I might be holding in my body. I always make the effort to watch sunrise and sunset. I always find time to paint or draw or write, letting my imagination run wild and my creativity flow naturally and then Sunday’s are my self love - ritual day, filled with making food and music with loved ones.
If you had to describe self love in one word, what would it be?
Essential
Is there anything you once disliked about yourself that you now love?
My scars, I used to think they made me feel and look rugged, disorientated and ugly but I now cherish them and often highlight them in my art, words and photos. They are one of my favourite parts of myself.
If you could give one piece of advise to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self not to worry about what other people think. To allow myself to feel vulnerable and to believe in my own magic. To remind myself that I am unique and trust yourself to believe you are beautiful, because no-one else can make you feel how you want to other than yourself. That it is really important not to compare, you have the world at your fingertips, trust your intuition, trust your imagination and trust you have it in you to feel loved and confident, all by yourself.
